iberty Lights: Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary and the Statue of Liberty’s 140th

Sandra Marinesco-Eiffel and her daughter, Anna-Louise Lacapelle, represented ADGE at the spectacular musical show orchestrated by Michaël Canitrot at the Statue of Liberty. She shares her account of this memorable day:

On July 3, I had the privilege of attending, on behalf of ADGE, the “Liberty Lights” evening celebration and show, conceived by the Consulate General of France in New York and Monumental Tour to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty and the 250th anniversary of Franco-American friendship.

French DJ and producer Michael Canitrot created a spectacular fifteen-minute sound-and-light show, blending electronic music with laser projections to showcase the iconic Statue of Liberty, presented by France to the United States in 1886. As a reminder, the statue’s internal framework was designed by our ancestor, Gustave Eiffel.

This breathtaking spectacle, which paid tribute to the finest gift France has given its American friends, was preceded by a flyover of the Statue of Liberty by the Patrouille de France.

As master of ceremonies, Cédrik Fouriscot, Consul General of France in New York, introduced the speeches delivered by French Ambassador Laurent Bili, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, and Kevin Lilly of the National Park Service, all of whom underscored the depth and enduring strength of the Franco-American friendship.

This one-of-a-kind show was broadcast on Friday, July 3, at 10:00 p.m. (EST) on ABC News, and on Sunday, July 5, at 8:30 p.m. on France Télévisions (France 2).

My heartfelt thanks to Michael Canitrot for including my ancestor, Gustave Eiffel, in this magnificent celebration. I was very proud to represent the Association of Gustave Eiffel’s Descendants (ADGE) at this exceptional event.

My sincere thanks as well to Monumental Tour, the Consulate General of France in New York, and their teams for this fabulous evening. It was truly unforgettable!
